WeekendNight care professional nanny with a question
Let me pose a question, I'm looking for some feedback.
I have been a professional nanny for 11 years now all in the area of Hampton Roads. I currently have a little boy I adore and I also bring my 2 girls with me to work. I've worked for this family for 2 years now.
Here is my situation....my husband and I are separating and my salary alone isn't quite enough to support me and my two daughters comfortably. I'm sure we'd figure a way, but I'm looking to make it without any assistance.
So I'm a class away from my Bachelors degree in psychology with a child welfare minor - I've taken all sorts of ECE courses, child welfare courses and what not at ODU and I have one class left to finish. I've been a nanny here locally for 11ish years now and have excellent references. I drive a '06 minivan that is in excellent shape. I have two daughters ages 3 and 10 weeks. I practice an "attached parenting" lifestyle and hope to homeschool one day (although we do learning activities now). I have memberships to the Aquarium, Norfolk Botanical Gardens and the Zoo and I also have a large circle of mommies that I spend time with during play dates and get togethers. I live a very healthy lifestyle that includes organic foods and the like so that is what I feed my kids. If I had your child(ren) during waking hours, I would take them out of the house to play.
With just this information, do you think there is a market for a part time, night and/or weekend care nanny? I would discount my salary significantly since I have 2 babies of my own and it would be a convenience to keep them home and have your child(ren) come to my home....My guess is depending on the hours and amount of children, the hourly rate would be between $7-10.
I'm only in the thinking stage of this right now. This is not just a convenience job for me, this is what I've chosen as my career. It affords me the luxury to be home with my daughters and now that I will be on my own completely, it would also function as a means to keep my daughters occupied with friends as well.
With all this being said, what do you think as a mommy or a caregiver? Is this venture worth it?
